Linda McCartney

About Linda McCartney

Born in 1941, Linda Eastman became one of the most noted photographers covering the '60s rock music scene. She met Paul McCartney during the launch of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Band, and the couple married in 1969. After studying piano, she was credited along with Paul for the 1971 LP Ram, and then joined his new band, Wings. Linda recorded and toured with her husband during the following years, inspiring many of Paul's solo hits as well. She was most successful outside of music, earning respect as a high-profile force for animal rights and vegetarianism in addition to her photography. Linda died from breast cancer in April 1998 at the age of 56; a collection of solo recordings, Wide Prairie, was issued posthumously later that year. ~ Jason Ankeny
