About L. Shankar

L. Shankar is a virtuoso violinist, vocalist, composer, and producer. A musical pioneer whose career defines the word "fusion," he has hundreds of recording and writing credits extending across many genres. He has played on hundreds of classic rock, jazz, and pop albums from the 1980s and '90s. During the '70s he and guitarist John McLaughlin co-led Shakti, an acoustic Indo-jazz fusion group who issued three seminal albums -- they reunited in the '90s as Remember Shakti. His 1979 solo album Touch Me There, was produced and released by Frank Zappa. 1981's Who's to Know, was the first of seven albums for ECM over the next decade. After spending the '80s and '90s as a sideman, he released Eternal Light and Enlightenment in 2000. The star-studded Open the Door appeared in 2007. In 2020 he issued the expansive Chepleeri Dream, and Christmas from India a year later.
