About KING MUD
Laying out a high-decibel fusion of hard rock and urban blues that's dirty, distorted, and full of swagger, King Mud features two noted figures on the modern blues-rock scene, guitarist and vocalist Freddy J IV from the band Left Lane Cruiser, and drummer Van Campbell from the Black Diamond Heavies. The two musicians had traveled in the same circles for years, and in the spring of 2015, they decided to try a collaborative project. Holing up in a recording studio in Glendale, California that was just down the block from the motel where they stayed and the liquor store where they bought refreshments, Freddy and Van spent five 18-hour days writing and recording material, with some help from producer and engineer Arthur Alexander and guest guitarist Parker Griggs (from the group Radio Moscow). Noted rock photographer Robert Matheu was on hand to document the sessions, and at the end of the work week, the King Mud project had completed an album, titled The Victory Motel Sessions. The album was released by Alive Naturalsound in February 2016.
