K CAMP lives comfortably in the space between hip-hop and R&B, producing trap love songs that feel authentically singular. Born Kristopher Thomas Campbell in Milwaukee (1990) and raised in Atlanta, K CAMP cooked up a personalized formula for success: lean earnestly into sensuality and affection, but present it with a player’s mentality. Despite the natural fluidity of his records, K CAMP insists he doesn’t write his lyrics down. “Everything is off the heart,” he told Apple Music. “Everything is off the mind.” He transitioned from underground to mainstream after collaborating with Atlanta royalty 2 Chainz on the club-ready “Cut Her Off,” from 2014's In Due Time, K CAMP’s debut major label EP. He would continue to combine emotive singing with suave rapping on 2015’s Only Way Is Up, featuring the breezy, pining “Comfortable.” In 2019, K CAMP released Wayy 2 Kritical, which contained “Lottery (Renegade),” a smash hit that became the first sound on TikTok to reach 20 million videos, thanks to a viral dance challenge. The following year, K CAMP dropped the fifth iteration of his KISS mixtape series, led by “What’s On Your Mind,” a proper R&B duet with Jacquees that finds the singers doing their best to quell the concerns of their significant others.
