About Joost Lijbaart

Amsterdam-based drummer Joost Lijbaart established himself as a staple in European jazz, lending his skills to numerous artists over the years. Born in 1967, he began learning drums at age seven. He went on to graduate with honors from the Hilversum Conservatory in 1991, and within five years, he'd released his debut album, 1996's Star Tracks, as part of the Yuri Honing Trio. He would play with the trio for over 20 years, releasing more than five albums. He also played in his own quartet Group of Friends, as a duo with Wolfert Brederode, with the group Batik, and with an improvisation trio called Under the Surface with Sanne Rambags and Bram Stadhouders.
