About Jon Brion

An accomplished producer and film-score composer who can also write catchy pop songs, Jon Brion has touched multiple corners of the cultural landscape with his prodigious musical talent. Born in 1963 in Glen Ridge, NJ, Brion dropped out of high school to pursue music, eventually moving to Boston in 1987. There, he struck up a working relationship with singer/songwriter Aimee Mann, becoming a touring member of her New Wave band ’Til Tuesday until its dissolution in 1989. He coproduced Mann's 1993 solo debut, Whatever, and would amass a lengthy list of production and session credits in the following years, working with artists like Elliott Smith, Fiona Apple, and Eels. Meanwhile, he struck up a relationship with director Paul Thomas Anderson and scored several Anderson films, including Magnolia and Punch-Drunk Love, and later provided the music for other directors’ works, such as This Is 40 and Lady Bird. Brion continues to be a fixture in the American music scene whose thoughtful production flourishes have aided artists as varied as Mac Miller and Bruce Springsteen.
