About John Hiatt

One of the finest songwriters of his generation, John Hiatt was celebrated by critics and discriminating music fans long before a larger audience discovered his work as a recording artist. Hiatt's songs were covered successfully by everyone from Three Dog Night and Bonnie Raitt to Iggy Pop and the Neville Brothers, yet it took him years to reach the charts himself and find his own style. He began his solo career in 1974 with Hangin' Around the Observatory, and over the next decade ran through a number of different styles (from new wave pop to rock & roll) before finally settling on a rootsy fusion of rock & roll, country, blues, and folk. Throughout, Hiatt made the most of his smart, observational lyrics, rough but passionate voice, and rootsy melodies.
