About Jimmie Rodgers
Best known for his No. 1 hit “Honeycomb,” Jimmie Rodgers was a singer and actor who rose to stardom in the ’50s with country and pop-inspired singles. ∙ While serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, Rodgers decided to pursue a career in music after seeing how emotional his fellow soldiers got when he sang to them. ∙ His 1957 rendition of Bob Merrill’s “Honeycomb” was his first No. 1 single in the US and earned a RIAA Gold certification. ∙ In 1958, he recorded the title song for the hit film The Long, Hot Summer, which starred Hollywood legends Paul Newman and Orson Welles. ∙ On-air for just a year, The Jimmie Rodgers Show was broadcast in 1959, and he returned to TV as the host of another variety show in the summer of 1969. ∙ Between 1958 and 1967, 20 of his songs entered the Billboard Hot 100, including “Are You Really Mine,” which reached No. 10. ∙ Rodgers earned Grammy nominations for two of his songs: 1958’s “Oh, Oh, I’m Falling In Love Again” and 1967’s “Child of Clay.”
