About Jemima James

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I grew up listening to my father's records: Leadbelly, The Bulgarian Women's Choir, Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs, Italian folk songs, Cajun songs, soundtracks like Porgy and Bess, South Pacific, they all had a big impact. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Ray Charles and His Orchestra, What'd I Say (Original 1959 Remasterd) - EP Put a gun to my head. Ray Charles, What'd I Say, just listen. Willy Mason, all and future, writing, vocals, humanity. Randy Newman 'Land Of Dreams', depth, soul, humor. Tomorrow another three: Bob Dylan, Blond on Blond, George Jones, I Am What I Am…. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “If I Can't Get the Gold” I kept returning to a song I wrote in the 70s that made my sister-in-law cry called If I Can't Get the Gold. It wasn't quite there til I rewrote a verse last year and nailed it. It's on my new album, Silver and Gold
