About Javier Camarena
Javier Camarena is arguably today's top Mexican tenor, a successor to Plácido Domingo and his major role in the musical life of that country. A specialist in bel canto Italian opera and the music of Mozart, Camarena has appeared on major stages in North America and Europe. Camarena's debut came as Tonio in a production of Donizetti's La fille du régiment at Mexico City's Palacio de Bellas Artes. In addition to numerous operatic recordings, Camarena released the recital Contrabandista in 2018. Camarena was heard on a 2021 recording of the Berlioz Requiem with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, conducted by Antonio Pappano, and the following year, he joined the historical performance group Jupiter for the album Signor Gaetano, exploring lesser-known works of Donizetti.
