About Jan De Winne
Jan De Winne is a transverse flute player and instrument maker, associated with the early music ensemble Il Gardellino. He studied music in Bruges, Ghent, and Brussels, and notably studied Baroque flute with Barthold Kuijken. De Winne also pursued studies in musicology and art history at the University of Ghent. He won the second prize at the competition of the Festival of Flanders in 1987. He has performed with various ensembles, including Il Fondamento, the Salzburg Baroque Orchestra, Collegium Vocale, the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées, and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, before forming Il Gardellino with Marcele Ponseele. They toured the United States, South America, Israel, and Russia, and performed at many European festivals. De Winne has taught flute and chamber music at the Brussels Conservatory, the Conservatoire de Lyon, and the Conservatoire de Paris. He also makes modern replicas of Baroque and Classical flutes, and maintains a studio in Halle. He has recorded for Passacaille, Accent, EPR Records, and Eufoda. ~ Blair Sanderson
