Composer Jóhann Jóhannsson was a founding member of Kitchen Motors, an Icelandic arts collective that produced cross-disciplinary projects, including concerts, books, and films.
∙ His fourth album, IBM 1401 a User’s Manual, was inspired and informed by his father’s work as an IBM maintenance engineer who recorded music on early computers.
∙ The Icelandic composer got his first mainstream Hollywood gig when he scored Prisoners, a thriller starring Hugh Jackman.
∙ His haunting score for the 2014 Stephen Hawking biopic, The Theory of Everything, earned him an Academy Award nomination.
∙ In 2017, Jóhannsson directed his first film, Last and First Men, which debuted at the Manchester International Film Festival.
