About Ismay

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My first recording experience was at a studio in an amusement park. At age nine, I chose to sing Long Time Gone by The Chicks. I remember getting into our purple suburban with my first recording in a CD folder, overjoyed to share my love of singing. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Angel Olsen, Half Way Home Bonny Light Horseman, Bonny Light Horseman George Jones, Melba Montgomery, Vintage Collections These records show what’s possible in ****/country music. Half Way Home is so raw and original, Vintage Collections is classic yet melodically and vocally unique and dynamic, and Bonny Light Horseman ingeniously reimagines old time music. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “A Song in Praise of Sonoma Mountain” We recorded this song in one take in a sheep barn to reflect what the sounds of Sonoma Mountain (my family's ranch) are to me. In this song, we included real sounds from Sonoma Mountain including the beautiful sounds of the wind and birds. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? A teary-eyed audience member approached me after performing once. I had sang Black Lung, a song about a disease that his father suffered from. Hearing it meant a lot to him. The way music surfaces deep emotions makes being a musician feel meaningful. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would love to play in Europe at some point, I've heard they love cowboy stuff over there!
