About Incognito
British acid-jazz band Incognito scored their first major success with “Always There,” a funky collaboration with American R&B singer Jocelyn Brown that was a No. 6 UK hit in 1991. ∙ Beginning with 1992’s Tribes Vibes and Scribes, the group landed 13 albums in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Jazz Albums chart. ∙ In 2001, Incognito won the UK’s MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Award for Best Jazz Act. ∙ “Brother to Brother,” a 2002 UK hit duet by Paul Weller and Terry Callier, was produced by Incognito founder Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick. ∙ “Mindin’ My Business,” from 2004’s Adventures in Black Sunshine, featured jazz-funk pioneer George Duke on Fender Rhodes. ∙ R&B legend Chaka Khan guested on two tracks from the group’s 2010 album, Transatlantic R.P.M.: “Lowdown” and “The Song.” ∙ The band’s music has been reworked by many high-profile DJs and remixers, including Pete Rock, David Morales, and Jazzanova.
