About Modeselektor

Known for their rowdy, genre-bending approach to hard techno, the Berlin-based duo of Sebastian Szary and Gernot Bronsert (Modeselektor) make hard work for music critics trying to pin down their diverse (and disorderly) sonic output. Emerging during the creative boom of the early days of post-Wall Berlin, the pair initially recorded as Fundamental Knowledge before signing to Ellen Allien’s Bpitch Control in the early ‘00s and premiering their first singles releases as Modeselektor. The group’s debut album, HELLO MOM! (2005), won acclaim for its irreverent yet humorous approach, combining grimy beat mash-ups with IDM-styled rhythmic pileups. Their follow-up, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! (2007), featured an even more groove-friendly mix of crunk beats and glitch-ridden digitalia, along with guest spots by Radiohead front man Thom Yorke and French rappers TTC.
