In his tragically short life, DJ and producer i_o created smoldering strains of techno and trance and collaborated with artists like Grimes and Tommy Trash. • The Virginia native born Garret Lockhart learned to DJ while attending George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He moved to LA in 2013 to study at the Icon Collective music production school. • He stepped into the limelight in 2017 after appearing on deadmau5’s compilation LP We Are Friends, Vol 7. • The newcomer cowrote and coproduced “Violence” for Grimes’ 2019 album Miss Anthropocene. • From 2019 to 2020, he released a three-part EP series comprising ACID 444, NRG 444, and AM 444 on deadmau5’s mau5trap label, where he did his most notable work. • He died in 2020 at age 30. The LA County Medical Examiner determined he suffered fatal complications from an autoimmune disorder involving his thyroid.
