In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. At age three I heard a marching band in a park in Nuremberg and spontaneously I started conducting it. Soon after, I played the xylophone, the recorder and at age five I started taking violin lessons. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Astor Piazzolla, Gidon Kremer, Kremerata Baltica, Astor Piazzolla: Four Seasons of Buenos Aires - Vivaldi: Four Seasons Jean-Luc Ponty, King Kong: Jean-Luc Ponty Plays the Music of Frank Zappa Jeanne Loriod, Orchestre de l’Opéra national de Paris, Messiaen: Turangalîla Symphony I love Messiaen, he reinvented classical music, adding elements of japanese and Indian music. I love Zappa, he fusioned the languages of Rock and Contemporary music. I love Piazzolla, he reinvented the tango, combining it with classical and jazz. Tell us why you chose this song. “Gitango” This passionate song combines the energy of the tango with the expressivity of gypsy music, hence its name Gitango. It also has elements of jazz in the improvisations and of classical music in its formal structure. And people dance to it Milongas! What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? My band Melosphere was invited to perform at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1987 as part of its New Jazz Series. The setting and environment was a perfect fit for my eclectic style of music and proved me, that I was on the way to finding my own voice. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? There is still lots of music in my head that needs to be put on paper and to be played... I enjoy to work on multimedia projects, since I like to collaborate with artists from different disciplines, be it in visual arts, film, dance or theatre.
