About Hawken Horse
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. When I was young I remember hearing a former WW2 POW singing a hymn at church a cappella with tears streaming down his face. It's about the words. I don't care if it's Bob Dylan or Aretha Franklin singing, the song is all that ever mattered to me. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Colter Wall, Colter Wall Gordon Lightfoot, If You Could Read My Mind Jeff Black, Birmingham Road I'm immensely influenced both sonically and lyrically by artists like Tom Petty and Bob Dylan but these 3 records had the greatest fingerprints on the music of Hawken Horse. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Free” This song was kind of the genesis of Hawken Horse. I was driving from Tennessee to Wisconsin for deer season when I had the idea for Hawken Horse. These were the first lyrics that fell out of the sky. It was written from a very authentic place. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? It's between writing "The Ballad of Warner Glenn" with Clay Newcomb of MeatEater or being featured in American Frontiersman Magazine. Both were total pinch-me moments. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? There are so many songs left to be written just sitting in my brain. That's the first thing on my agenda. Also, I love producing music for others but I'd love to grow this into my full time gig.
