About Harmonia

A Krautrock supergroup of sorts, Harmonia began as a sideline project of guitarist Michael Rother during a hiatus from his band Neu! A trio formed with the addition of Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius of Cluster, their ambient electronic style complementing Rother’s chugging, motorik-influenced guitar pulse. The group released two albums of loose, improvisatory space rock, MUSIK VON HARMONIA (1974) and DELUXE (1975) that, despite being commercial failures, proved highly influential. The albums became cult favorites with German rock aficionados and figures such as David Bowie and Brian Eno. The later was so taken with the Harmonia’s groundbreaking ambient rock that he joined the group on their final studio album. By session’s end, Rother had departed for a solo career and Roedelius and Moebius resumed their activities as Cluster, quietly pulling the plug on the Harmonia story. Their final album, TRACKS AND TRACES, was posthumously released in 1997 under the name Harmonia 76.
