About Hands Like Houses
Like many bands who started out playing ferocious post-hardcore, Hands Like Houses have branched out beyond their metallic roots and cultivated a broader sound as their career has progressed. The group’s 2013 single “No Parallels” incorporates piano and vulnerable vocal melodies; their 2014 cover of the Natalie Imbruglia-popularized “Torn” recaptures the original version’s bittersweet pop-rock vibe; and 2018’s “Monster” combines a grungy guitar maelstrom with electronic flourishes. Formed in 2008 in Canberra, Australia, the band debuted two years later with the introspective single “This Ain’t No Place for Animals,” which would appear on their 2012 debut full-length, Ground Dweller. Their follow-up the next year, Unimagine, reached the top 10 of several U.S. charts, setting the stage for 2016’s Dissonants, which peaked at No. 7 in their native Australia. By the 2020 release of a self-titled EP, Hands Like Houses had become even more adventurous—as evidenced by the skyscraping post-rock track “Space.”
