About Golden Teacher
Golden Teacher's outer limits post-disco hybrids apply a broad range of inspirations including left-field disco, post-punk, free improvisation, dub, dancehall, and traditional Ghanaian music. Centered in Glasgow, Scotland, the group was formed by brothers Laurie and Oliver Pitt, and Richard McMaster and Sam Bellacosa. Vocalists Cassie Ezeji and Charles Lavenac were eventually added to the lineup. Optimo Music was the sextet's first outlet, through which their early releases were issued in 2013 and 2014. GDDB, a 60-minute cassette, was also released during this period. After 2015's Golden Teacher Meets Dennis "Dubmaster" Bovell at the Green Door, Golden Teacher established an eponymous label with Sauchiehall Dancehall, highlighted by the warped, clattering "Shatter." Raveinstigator followed in 2016, and No Luscious Life, a self-released album, appeared in 2017. ~ Andy Kellman
