Glen Hansard
About Glen Hansard
A hero of indie folk who has won an Oscar and created the basis of a successful stage musical, Glen Hansard won acclaim for his literate, intelligent, and passionate songwriting and his nuanced vocals. Hansard first gained an audience for the limber but emphatic indie rock he created as a member of the Frames, then gained international fame with fellow singer and songwriter Markéta Irglová in the Swell Season; their emotionally open, primarily acoustic indie folk became the centerpiece of the award-winning independent romantic drama Once. Since going out on his own in 2012, Hansard has shown remarkable stylistic diversity, embracing an array of sounds on albums like Didn't He Ramble (2015) and The Wild Willing (2019) that range from '70s singer/songwriter and vintage soul to subtle folk and noisy indie rock.
