About Gioacchino Rossini

Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) was one of the most acclaimed Italian opera composers of the early 19th century. He began writing operas prolifically in his teens, and by his early twenties was Italy's best-known composer. He had written 39 operas by the time he was 37, after which he retired and composed very little music for the remainder of his life. Il barbiere di Siviglia is one of the most beloved and frequently performed operas of all time, and the overture to his last opera, William Tell, is one of the most widely recognizable and popular of all classical compositions.
