About Georges Bizet

French composer Georges Bizet did not leave a large body of completed works, but several are at the core of the classical repertoire. Carmen, which is notable for the composer's unerring sense of dramaturgy and for its wealth of memorable melody and evocative orchestral writing, has been called "the perfect opera," and includes several of the most popular arias of all time, including the "Habanera" and the "Toreador Song." The Pearl Fishers is at the fringe of the operatic repertoire and contains the most famous duet for tenor and baritone, "Au fond du temple saint." Bizet's L'Arlesienne suites are concert favorites.
