About Garrison Fewell

At the age of 11, Garrison Fewell began studying acoustic blues guitar, focusing on the music of old country blues artists like Mississippi John Hurt and Rev. Gary Davis. He subsequently studied jazz guitar at the Berklee College Of Music in Boston, to which he returned five years later as Professor of Guitar. In 1976, Fewell formed his own jazz group, while working with Larry Coryell and Herbie Hancock on the side. In 1988, he taught at the Rotterdam Conservatory, playing with pianist Cees Slinger and in duo with a fellow-American, pianist Dave Frank. Throughout the 90s, Fewell remained active as performer and educator, conducting Jazz Workshops at the Montreux International Jazz Festival. He had a renaissance of sorts when ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? was voted Best Record Of 1996 by Guitar Player magazine
