Gang of Youths
About Gang of Youths
Australian indie-rock band Gang of Youths formed when frontman David Le'aupepe recruited friends to flesh out songs he had written to cope with his wife’s terminal cancer diagnosis.
∙ The Positions, a 2015 concept album that traced the arc of Le’aupepe’s marriage, divorce, and subsequent mental health struggles, earned critical acclaim and received Gold certification.
∙ Debuting at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, 2017’s Go Farther in Lightness won four ARIA Awards, including Album of the Year and Best Group.
∙ In 2018, they were chosen to headline the National Rugby League Grand Final—the equivalent to playing the Super Bowl halftime show.
∙ Joining Chet Faker and Powderfinger, they are the third band to have three entries in the Top 10 of national radio station Triple J’s Hottest 100 countdown of the year’s best songs.
∙ They were the inaugural performers on the Australian installment of MTV Unplugged.
