Japanese singer-songwriter Gakuto “GACKT” Oshiro fronted the visual kei band Malice Mizer until going solo in 1999. ∙ His debut release, 1999’s Mizerable - EP, rose to No. 2 on the Japanese albums chart, while its sweeping title track was a No. 3 hit single. ∙ From 1999 through 2014, he released 44 singles that reached the Top 10 in Japan, including 10 that were certified Gold. ∙ GACKT coscripted, starred in, and sang the theme song for his first feature film, the vampire thriller Moon Child, which screened at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival. ∙ In 2007, he formed the short-lived supergroup S.K.I.N. with YOSHIKI of X Japan, SUGIZO of Luna Sea, and guitarist MIYAVI. ∙ Launching a new career as a stage actor in 2010, he appeared as the lead in the Moon Saga duology, which he also wrote, scored, and directed.
