About Felix da Housecat
One of the most versatile players in dance music, Felix da Housecat is beloved by many corners of club culture, often for completely different aspects of his work. Born Felix Stallings Jr., in Chicago in 1971, he got his start playing keyboards in DJ Pierre’s studio as a teen. On early albums like 1994’s Thee Industry Made Me Do It!, under his Aphrohead alias, and 1995’s Metropolis Present Day? Thee Album, he explored the deeper side of house and techno; then, the louche synth-pop of 2001’s Kittenz and Thee Glitz, with Miss Kittin, established him as a key figure in the early-2000s electroclash scene. He continued the indie crossover with 2004’s spunky Devin Dazzle & the Neon Fever, complete with a James Murphy cameo, then pivoted into slinkier electro-funk sounds with records like 2009’s He Was King. Never one to be pinned down, Felix went left yet again with 2018’s Son of Analogue, a dusky descent into experimental trip-hop on the A side and melancholy synth-pop on the B side—proof that even within the space of a single album, Felix da Housecat has little interest in standing still.
