About Elder Randall Ogans Sr.

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. When I was 10 years old, my parents bought me my first keyboard. It was a table top Magnus Organ. It only had 2 1/2 octaves, but it was enough for me to begin playing gospel music by ear. Shortly thereafter I began classical piano lessons. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Billy Preston, 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Billy Preston Eddie Harris, The Electrifying Eddie Harris / Plug Me In Jimmy Smith, Jimmy Smith - The Sermon These albums were an inspiration to me. Coming up, when learning how to play the Hammond B-3 organ, I was a big fan of Jimmy Smith & Billy Preston. My style of playing was greatly influenced by these two, mixing gospel music with jazz inflections. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “What a Friend” It's my interpretation of the time tested hymn, that assures us Jesus is the best friend one could ever have. I'm accompanied on this jazz infused version by my son Dorian doing the lead guitar work. It's special when family makes music together.
