Edip Akbayram

About Edip Akbayram

Edip Akbayram was a celebrated Turkish musician who stood out for combining traditional Turkish songs with complex psychedelic elements and a singing style that was passionate and emotional. His '70s rock band Dostlar Orkestrasi made politically charged songs that connected with Turkey's disenfranchised youth, and he continued making socially conscious music on his own for decades to come. His later solo work was often controversial to the point of being banned from broadcast, but Akbayram continued creating and fighting into later life, releasing new music like the 2012 album Mayis while in his sixties.
