About Dozi

Since the late '90s, South Africa's Dozi has been one of the nation’s most legendary sokkie singers. Born Henk Opperman in Hluhluwe, KwaZulu Natal in 1964, Dozi grew up on a farm in Standerton where he started playing guitar and singing at the age of 12. After meeting producer/guitarist Hansie Roodt and music promoter Lydia Winchester while performing at local pubs, Dozi’s professional career took off when he debuted with the Zulu-gospel album Mercy in 1999. Dozi’s extensive catalogue includes works sung in Afrikaans, English, and Zulu, and his multilingual approach has helped him garner an audience that spans ethnic groups throughout his home country. Apart from his own musical endeavors, Dozi also provides a platform for emerging talents at his restaurant and entertainment venue, called Dozi’s Back to the Roots, and has been a coach on the TV singing competition Supersterre.
