About DOES

Does is a Japanese garage rock trio that comes from Fukuoka and is comprised of Wataru Ujihara (vocals/guitar), Yasushi Akatsuka (bass), and Kesaku Morita (drums). The band was founded in 2000, but went through a number of member changes and even a short hiatus before settling on a stable lineup and entering the studio for the first time in 2004, when they recorded the debut indie single "Outside" and the EP Does. They continued to perform live and record the occasional single as an indie band until 2006, when they were signed by Ki/oon Records, debuting on a major label with the single "Ashita wa Kuru no Ka," followed by the first full-length Newold the same year. They held their first headline shows in 2006, and appeared at some music festivals, including the prestigious Rock in Japan and Rising Sun, in 2007, when they also released their second album, Subterranean Romance, and made their first serious claim to fame with the song "Shura," which was selected for the credits of the popular anime series Gintama. In 2008, the single "Donten" was also used in Gintama, which propelled it to the Oricon Top Three -- a feat repeated by 2010's "Bakuchi Dancer." The third full-length, The World's Edge, came out in 2009, and the collection Singles followed the next year. ~ Alexey Eremenko
