In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I started playing guitar at age 7. At 24, I lost the use of my left hand, so I switched to synthesizer. At age 34 I regained the use of my hand and added guitar to my synths. This formed my approach to music, and I hope you will hear it in my work! What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Switched-on Bach / Wendy Carlos The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Are You Experienced Deluxe Version The Yardbirds, Over Under Sideways Down Over Under Sideways Down was the 1st album I bought, and it introduced me to Jeff Beck. Then came Jimi Hendrix and blew my mind. My Mom bought Switched on Bach for me, which opened my mind to the kinds of new sounds possible with synthesizers. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Chaconne for Guitar (feat. Mashine Music & Stefan)” It combines my loves for Classical guitar, jazz and rock guitar, and synths all in one piece. My friend Bruce Nifong joins me on soprano saxophone with his gorgeous sound. The melody is simple and sticks in your ear. I hope you'll like it too! What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I was moved to tears when Berklee College of Music named an Sythesizer Lab in my honor, "The Mashine Room." At the same time, Moog Music and Chris Halaby donated a Moog IIIc synthesizer to Berklee with in honor of my contributions to Electronic Music Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Post-Covid I would love to put a kicking' band together to tour as Mashine Music. It would be a blast to tour with some of the many great musicians I have worked with over my career.
