About Daddy Yankee

Though not the originator or first home-grown superstar, Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee was instrumental in introducing reggaeton to a mainstream international audience. Yankee's (aka Raymon Ayala) 2004's double platinum Barrio Fino and its infectious crossover hit "La Gasolina" made him a household name. By the time of El Cartel: The Big Boss (2007), his name, image, and music were used to sell everything from soft drinks to footwear. He also had a syndicated show for ABC Radio Networks (Daddy Yankee on Fuego) and starred in the film Talento de Barrio. He has continued releasing hit records and regularly collaborates with reggaeton and hip-hop stars.
