About Current 93
Current 93 (essentially the on-going project of Brit Dave Tibet and featuring an assortment of rotating band members) began as part of the British industrial movement of the late 1970s and early '80s. Consistently dark and near-apocalyptic in tone, Current 93, while once harsh and cacophonous, had evolved into a surprisingly gentle folk project by the early '90s. Certainly not one to adhere to convention, Tibet's approach, while steeped in traditional British folk melodies, was profoundly influenced by various mystical and occult concepts. Bafflingly prolific--with almost 40 albums released in a two-decade period--Current 93 continued to record and perform into the 2000s.
