About Crowded House
While growing up, Crowded House lead singer Neil Finn participated in family sing-alongs while his mom played piano. ∙ Neil joined brother Tim’s band Split Enz in 1977 and penned the 1980 single “I Got You,” which was a minor hit in the US. ∙ After Split Enz dissolved, Neil formed a new band, named after the crowded house in California where they lived while recording their debut album. ∙ Crowded House’s 1986 self-titled debut spawned the worldwide hits “Don’t Dream It’s Over” and “Something So Strong.” ∙ “Don’t Dream It’s Over” has been covered by Miley Cyrus & Ariana Grande, Sixpence None the Richer, and Paul Young. ∙ Their single “Now We’re Getting Somewhere” features contributions from Elvis Presley’s bassist, Jerry Scheff, and legendary session drummer Jim Keltner. ∙ Crowded House reemerged in 2020 after a period of inactivity with a revamped lineup featuring Finn’s sons, Liam and Elroy, and plans for new music and tour dates.
