About Chyno Miranda

Chyno Miranda is a Venezuelan-born singer, songwriter, and actor, currently based in the United States in Miami. He has a long history of hitmaking with his first group, Calle Ciega, and the duo Chino y Nacho. Miranda has been making music since he was in his teens. His hard work singing in local bands and as a solo act won him a spot on Venevision's internationally televised talent competition Generation S. It was on the show that he met Nacho (Miguel Ignacio Mendoza Donatti) and, with other cast members, formed the group Calle Ciega, which released a pair of albums in 2004 and 2005. He and Nacho split from the group to form their popular duo Chino y Nacho in 2007. From the beginning, they were hitmakers. Their debut single, "Epoca de Reyes," landed on numerous charts and won them an invitation to perform at the futbol championship La Copa América. Their 2009 album, Mi Niña Bonita, topped the charts and won them a gold record and a Latin Grammy nomination. Chart success followed with 2011's Supremo, 2013's Supremo: Reloaded, and 2015's Radio Universo. Touring was constant, but Miranda found time to do his own work as well. In 2009, he won a continuing role in the telenovela Una Esposa Para Estela, and in 2015 played the lead role in El Malquerido, a biopic about the life of legendary Venezuelan singer Felipe Pirela. Chino y Nacho amicably split in March of 2017. The breakup was announced at that year's Premix Lo Nuestro via a cryptic missive from their manager Pablo Villalobos: "Here everything started, here everything is over, and here it all begins again." Miranda later offered a more illuminating explanation, saying they were simply putting the project on hold as he and Nacho each worked on solo material: "...It is not a 'goodbye' but a 'see you soon.'" In June, Miranda issued his first single, "Quedate Conmigo," featuring guest spots from Wisin and Gente de Zona. The video racked up nearly 50 million views and the single placed at number three on the Tropical Songs chart, five at Latin Digital Songs Sales, and on four other charts. In September, he followed it with the romantic and celebratory "Tú Me Elevas," revealing a more mainstream pop direction. Its video clocked more than a million views within two weeks of release. ~ Thom Jurek
