About Charlie Feathers

Charlie Feathers was the consummate rockabilly artist; a fearless stylist who melded the soulful heart of country with rocking abandon and bluesy grit, he set himself on a course from which he would never stray. Feathers was an early Sun studios artist who cut a few sides for the label in the mid 1950s, but his rough, unhinged style was passed on in favor of more palatable artists in Sam Phillips's stable. The legendary performer would retreat to the margins of the music business in the years to come; however his cult status, fueled in part by his self-mythologizing, would continue to grow. A wild soul, Feathers would prove a major influence on other musical rebels such as the Cramps, Tav Falco, Jon Spencer, and Alex Chilton, among many others.
