His felicitous 2019 TikTok crossover hit “Absolutely Anything” helped land him a record deal. • When CG5 started posting original songs on YouTube in 2014, many of them were based on video games and memes, including 2018’s “The Bongo Cat Song,” based on the Bongo Cat meme, and “Bendy and the Ink Machine,” based on the horror video game of the same name. • After releasing dozens of singles online starting in 2016, CG5 put out the eight-song EP Patiently in 2020. • He’s cited ’70s pop, Hall & Oates, and The Doobie Brothers as formative influences.
