About Carolyn Currie

Carolyn Currie grew up in Concord, MA, developing an interest in singing, songwriting, and guitar playing as she attended college and graduate school. After settling in Seattle, WA, she self-released her first album, No Heroes, in 1995. It opened doors for her as a writer and performer at such venues as the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, the Napa Valley Folk Festival, and the BMI Songwriter's Showcase. Late 1998 saw the release of her next album, Standing Stones. Kiss of Ghosts, her third album, issued by Etherean on August 3, 2004 (shortly after she moved from Seattle to Maine), helped her secure berths at the Kerrville Folk Festival and the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival; it was chosen as one of the top independent releases of the year by Performing Songwriter magazine and won the People's Choice Award at the new age trade show INATS East. Currie signed to Nashville-based independent label High Horse Records for the release of her fourth album, Waves of Silence, in April 2009. ~ William Ruhlmann
