Twin sisters Miko and Yumi Bai were born for the stage. Arriving into the world in 1992 and supported in their aptitude for the arts by their parents from a young age, the sisters learnt a variety of performance crafts including violin, piano, ballet and folk dance, before releasing their debut NC 16 as By2 in 2008. The album, with its fresh and sweet sound, broke records—accounting for 33% of all Mainland China record sales and 18% of Taiwan sales during the first week of release—and cemented the duo as rising Mandopop stars. The pair continued to build on their sugary-sweet dance-pop style throughout the early 2000s, before finally hitting their stride with the more mature, diversified sound of subsequent releases. The ‘10s would see By2 truly find their groove, mixing heartfelt ballads, kitschy dance bops and sonorous vocals—though their love of EDM can be heard throughout the remixes on 2017’s Love and Love.
