Essential Albums
- Of the countless popsmiths who aspire to follow in Lorde's footsteps, Broods have a pretty good shot: the brother-sister duo of Caleb and Georgia Nott are also from New Zealand, and they share the "Royals" singer's producer, Joel Little. Comprised of tempestuous pop with electronic flourishes, their debut shows a resemblance to their countrywoman's music but distinguishes itself, too: the single "Bridges" pulses with alt-R&B wooziness, and "Four Walls" is futuristic quiet storm. With Georgia's layered vocals and the swirling synths throughout, Evergreen is a bumpy ride, throbbing with urgent energy, like Portishead by way of Destiny's Child.

About BROODS
Auckland, New Zealand siblings Georgia and Caleb Nott have been performing together since childhood. ∙ Broods producer Joel Little (Lorde, Taylor Swift, Imagine Dragons) first heard the Notts in 2010, when he judged their band The Peasants of Eden in the national teen music competition Smokefreerockquest. ∙ Little suggested the Notts take the band name Broods—a nod to both their sibling relationship and the brooding nature of their music. ∙ The pair’s debut song, “Bridges,” was iTunes’ Single of the Week in February 2014. ∙ In 2016, their second album, Conscious, garnered five New Zealand Music Awards, including Album of the Year, Best Group, and People’s Choice Award. ∙ Lorde cowrote the single “Heartlines,” the first Broods song with lyrics drawn from Caleb’s personal life.
