About Becky G
Mexican-American pop phenom Becky G may be the hardest-working woman in show business. The singer-songwriter taught herself guitar and began writing songs at 13, since racking up hits in both Spanish and English and forging an acting career that includes appearances on the TV show Empire and the 2017 Power Rangers film. Hailing from Inglewood, CA, the artist (born Rebbeca Marie Gomez in 1997) entered show business early on, doing voice-over work and commercials to help support her family. She was most passionate about music and sang in two girl groups before going solo in 2011 with a mixtape supported by production duo The Jam. Included was her remarkable cover of JAY-Z & Kanye West’s “Otis,” which brimmed with equal measures of bravado and skill. The song’s video caught the attention of Dr. Luke, who signed her to Kemosabe Records. With a fluid bilingual delivery that swings between singing and rapping, Becky G landed her first hit in 2014 with effervescent earworm “Shower.” Reading the evolving pop landscape, she turned her attention to reggaetón, touring the following year with Colombian superstar J Balvin and breaking into the Latin American market alongside Bad Bunny with slinky 2017 smash “Mayores.” Her subsequent Spanish-language debut album, Mala Santa, included the massive hit “Sin Pijama,” which cemented her global brand. Empowered to continue exploring, she dipped into Afrobeats on the remix of Rema's “Dumebi” and baile funk for “Funk Total: Vai Danada” with PK and Gabily. From there, Becky G's career has been a nonstop series of victory laps: performing an explosive set at Coachella 2021, drafting generation-defining stars like KAROL G and Peso Pluma for her albums ESQUEMAS and ESQUINAS respectively, and even landing a guest spot on exuberant reality competition show RuPaul's Drag Race.
