As a child in the early-2000s, German singer/songwriter/producer AVAION discovered his parents’ CD collection of classic dance music and found himself swept up in the grooves and textures. That experience would prove foundational as he began to fuse his piano and guitar melodies with electronic sounds. After experimenting with hazy trap rhythms on early singles like 2018’s “F****d Up” and “Lost,” he eased into a deeper tropical-house sound with 2019’s “You,” twining sparkling guitar around a shuffling beat and filling out the atmosphere with his airy falsetto. With 2019’s “Pieces,” his breakthrough hit, AVAION upped the tempo of his four-to-the-floor kicks but left the energy level smoldering. Then on 2020’s “She dance,” he dipped into slinky reggae backbeats, once again breathily suggesting an air of mystery with his dreamily alluring vocals. Whatever the style, the common denominators of AVAION’s music are its lush timbres and melancholy moods, equally suited for sorrow or seduction.
