Asal Kolaar

Asal Kolaar (aka Vasantha Kumar) is a Tamil rapper, singer and lyricist who has carved out a distinct lane in the industry with his raw slang and street-smart vocabulary. His viral 2020 anthem “Jorthaale”, created in collaboration with beat-maker OfRo, announced his arrival with swagger. Subsequent hits such as “Adi Odi”, “Vaanaambaa” and “Kaavaa Ulla”, along with film collabs like “Mustaache Vestaache” for Parris Jeyaraj in 2021 and “Pona Povura” for 2022’s Mahaan, brought his raw energy to the big screen. Working with heavy-hitting South Indian film composers—such as Anirudh Ravichander, Yuvan Shankar Raja and Santhosh Narayanan—Kolaar’s breakout moment came with “Naa Ready” from 2023’s Leo: a rap verse he famously wrote in just 35 minutes that exploded his fanbase overnight. His contributions to films including Coffee with Kadhal (2022), Gulu Gulu (2022), Mark Antony (2023) and King of Kotha (2023) have, alongside tracks including the self-assured, satirical “Paiya Dei”, firmly cemented his place. In 2025 Kolaar enjoyed another runaway hit with the playful “Monica” from the Tamil film Coolie.
