About Arthur Alexander
Arthur Alexander was one of the first true singing-songwriting stars of country-soul, a genre that wed Southern Black R&B singers to songs written in a country format. Alexander's "You Better Move On" was the first hit to come out of Rick Hall's fledgling Muscle Shoals studio, and those who have covered his tunes read like a who's-who from both sides of the Atlantic -- "Anna" (the Beatles); "Soldiers of Love" (Beatles and Marshall Crenshaw); "Burning Love" (Elvis Presley); "Set Me Free" (Joe Tex, Esther Phillips, Percy Sledge), and "You Better Move On" (the Rolling Stones). After a brief retirement, he recorded for both Warner Bros and Buddah, and made a 1993 comeback with the critically acclaimed Lonely Just Like Me.
