About Antoine Tamestit

French violist Antoine Tamestit studied at the Paris Conservatoire, then worked with Jesse Levine and Tabea Zimmermann. Between 2000 and 2004, he won several competitions, such as the Maurice Vieux International Viola Competition, the William Primrose International Viola Competition, the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, and the Munich International Music Competition. In 2006, he was the recipient of a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, and from 2004 to 2006 he was a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist. In 2009, he won the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award. His repertoire is wide-ranging, from the Baroque era to contemporary works. He has performed with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, and many other ensembles. An avid chamber musician, Tamestit has collaborated with Leonidas Kavakos, Gautier Capuçon, Renaud Capuçon, Louis Langrée, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Christian Poltéra, Christian Tetzlaff, Marie-Elisabeth Hecker, Alois Posch, and Martin Helmchen. He has recorded for Naïve, Ambroisie, Harmonia Mundi, Erato, BIS, Haenssler, and other labels. ~ Blair Sanderson
