About Ani Glass

As a member of the Pipettes, Ani Saunders' retro sensibilities indulged the girl group era of the early '60s, disco, and '80s dance-pop. With her solo alias, Ani Glass, she opts for a mix of the icy synthesizer textures of Krautrock and post-punk alongside shimmery '80s synth pop. Glass' full-length debut, Mirores, saw release in 2020. Matching polka-dot dresses, choreography, and the sound of classic Phil Spector formed the building blocks of the Pipettes, a group conceived by Brighton, England-based promoter Monster Bobby (real name: Robert William Barry). The trio was launched in 2003, and, amid ongoing lineup changes, Ani Saunders joined her sister Gwenno in the lineup in 2008. The siblings wrote and recorded the project's second album, 2010's Earth vs. the Pipettes, before the Pipettes called it quits in 2011. Saunders eventually relocated to her birthplace of Cardiff, Wales, and began working on solo material. Singing in both Welsh and Cornish, she emerged with the Ani Glass EP Ffrwydrad Tawel in 2017. It was produced by W.H. Dyfodol. Glass' debut album, the self-produced Mirores, followed on Recordiau Neb in March 2020. ~ Marcy Donelson
