Fado vocalist Ana Moura was born in the historic city of Santarem, Portugal. Moura was steeped in fado and its traditions, brought up in a family where the music was valued and loved. Though she experimented in adolescence with pop and rock music, singing in local bands, Moura's commitment to fado never waned, and she became a regular in the local fado culture. Moura made her recording industry debut with the 2004 Universal Music release Aconteceu. A release each year since that time and regular touring on the international world music circuit have positioned Ana Moura as the fadista face of her generation. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez
