About Alan Braufman
An exploratory alto saxophonist, flutist, and composer, Alan Michael Braufman is known for his harmonically engaging style that touches upon post-bop, spiritual modal music, and free jazz. He emerged from the New York loft scene of the '70s and first garnered acclaim alongside pianist Cooper-Moore with 1975's Valley of Search. Braufman has worked with other boundary-pushing performers, including Carla Bley, Cecil McBee, and Philip Glass. As a leader, he has continued to expand his approach, releasing several psychedelic pop-influenced albums, including 1988's Lost in Asia and 1995's As Daylight Fades. Following a period away from the spotlight, he remerged to acclaim, reuniting with Cooper-Moore for 2020's The Fire Still Burns and delivering 2024's Infinite Love Infinite Tears.
